Stories Aren’t Relative

“The further a society drifts away from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.” -George Orwell

According to a Gallup poll, only 41 percent of Americans trusted the mass media in 2019. To give a more-broad perspective, Gallup polled citizens on the same question back in 1976, and do you know what number they got?

72 percent.

Why is that? Whatever happened to mass media?

In 2020, media is the very foundation of how things are run in the United States. The media creates an agenda — that has a tremendous effect on viewers — which, in turn, puts a strong sense of pressure on politicians to introduce legislation on the same agenda.

The media also controls communication channels — through social media outlets such as Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Tik Tok, and much more. Everything that is said on these platforms is put in the hands of social media companies — and can be restricted if it doesn’t speak to their agenda.

Few know the true power of the current media.

Did you know that 90% of media outlets in America are controlled by just six companies?

In 1983, 50 companies owned that much. 50. Independent media channels are on life support right now.

For instance, most would probably think the Fort Collins Coloradoan seems like an independent newspaper. The reality is that the Coloradoan is owned by USA Today, which was bought by an even bigger organization called Gannett — which then merged with New Media Investment group. Not so independent, huh?

Not only are our everyday media outlets non-diversified, but so are the views of the dominant media. According to US news, 96 percent of journalists’ donations in the 2016 presidential race went toward Hillary Clinton.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with journalists donating money to certain political campaigns, but 96 percent? Something can’t be right.

The mainstream media has attempted to kill diverse thinking. Six companies are trying to control the minds of hundreds of millions. That’s why we’re here as a sentinel. As a watchful guardian, we seek to hold all media, government and society accountable — starting at a local level in Fort Collins, all the way out to Washington D.C.

Up until now, Fort Collins hadn’t been given an independent online newspaper to read. We changed that.

We fully-expect to get massive heat for doing what we’re doing — operating as an independent media organization. George Orwell was right that the more a society is mislead by the media, the more they will hate the media companies that report truth. We are finally ready for the challenge!

The media has turned to relativity instead of truth. We are here because you have spoken. We are here because stories aren’t relative. No matter which way a story is written — there is a truthful narrative out there, but only one. Stories aren’t relative.
